Goal
INTENSITY STUDIES TO DETERMINE MANUFACTURING INDICIES FOR THE EU

Intensity studies are undertaken in order for other companies to understand the resource requirements and emissions levels of producing a unit of a product, such as certain paper types.
The study surveyed near to 400 paper mills from across Europe. Manufacturing data including pulp types, source material origin, chemical usage, energy types, water requirements, waste effluent content and CO2e emissions i.e. CO2, NH4 and N2O. Transport of raw materials was also considered.
The results were submitted to a European Commission database called Eurostat and are often used by third parties as a means to understand their supply chain emissions (scope 3) where their suppliers do not have their own data to hand.
